YouTube Keyword Tool

Type a topic or a keyword and see whether it is worth a video: how many views videos on it get, how crowded it is, who leads it and the related keywords, from the last 12 months of real YouTube videos.

How it works

  1. 1

    Type a keyword

A topic, a phrase from a title or a niche. Use quotes for an exact phrase.

  2. 2

    We read real videos

Every video Returbe tracked over the last 12 months with the keyword in its title.

  3. 3

    Get the opportunity score

60% demand (views, uploads) and 40% the opposite of competition (channel size, how concentrated the views are).

How the opportunity score works

Most keyword tools guess a search volume. Returbe looks at what actually happened: the videos published on the keyword in the last 12 months and the views they got.

  • Demand (0–100) goes up with the median views of those videos and with how many get published: people watch this.
  • Competition (0–100) goes up when the channels covering it are big and when a few channels take most of the views.
  • Opportunity (0–100) is 60% demand and 40% low competition. Above 60, a smaller channel has a real chance on this topic.

How to pick a keyword for your next video

Look for a high median views figure with small channels in the leaders list: that is a topic where the idea wins, not the channel's size. A high outlier share (videos at 3× their channel's normal or more) is the strongest sign: small channels keep breaking through on it.

Then check the activity chart. A keyword with rising uploads and steady median views is growing; falling median views with more and more uploads means it is getting crowded.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find good keywords for YouTube?

Start from topics in your niche, check their median views and how big the channels covering them are, and favour the ones where small channels get outliers. Related keywords from the top videos' titles give you more ideas to test.

Does this tool show YouTube search volume?

No: YouTube doesn't publish search volume, and tools that show one estimate it. This tool shows what videos on the keyword really got: views, uploads, channels and outliers over the last 12 months.

What is a good opportunity score?

Above 60 is a good opportunity: solid demand without a few big channels taking every view. Under 40 means low demand or a topic dominated by large channels.

Why does my keyword show not enough data?

The score needs at least 5 videos with the keyword in their title over the last 12 months among the videos Returbe tracks. Try a broader or more common phrasing.

Which videos are included?

Videos Returbe tracked over the last 12 months on channels from the main YouTube markets it follows, live streams left out. New videos are added every day.

Is the keyword tool free?

Yes. You get free searches without an account, and unlimited searches with a free Returbe account.
