TubeBuddy vs Returbe (2026): channel toolkit or idea finder?

TubeBuddy vs Returbe compared: prices, licenses, A/B tests, bulk editing, outliers and niche research. Which one to pay for depending on your channel, and how to use both.

Logan Veny

Founder of Returbe

TubeBuddy is one of the oldest YouTube tools around: a browser extension that sits inside YouTube Studio and helps you run your channel, with SEO checklists, A/B tests and bulk edits. Returbe looks the other way, at the rest of YouTube: it tracks thousands of channels and surfaces the videos that blow up compared to their channel's normal, so you know what to make next.

We make Returbe, so read this with that in mind. Every TubeBuddy price and feature below comes from TubeBuddy's own pricing page as of October 29, 2026, and we say plainly where TubeBuddy is the better pick.

The short answer. Pick TubeBuddy if your work is managing your own videos: testing thumbnails, bulk-editing end screens and cards, polishing SEO. Pick Returbe if your work is deciding what to publish: a niche, a topic, a title structure that is already winning for channels like yours.

What TubeBuddy does best

TubeBuddy lives where you already work: YouTube Studio. Its strongest tools are about your own channel:

  • A/B tests of titles and thumbnails on videos you've published, so YouTube's own traffic tells you which version wins.
  • Bulk editing: change end screens, cards, descriptions or thumbnails across hundreds of videos at once. If you have a big back catalog, this alone saves days.
  • Keyword Explorer and SEO Studio to pick search terms and check an upload before it goes live.
  • Competitor scorecards and a channel valuation.

It's also the cheapest paid entry of the tools we compare, at $12/month for Pro.

The catches are in the license. TubeBuddy's pricing page says Pro and Legend are for individual creators only: businesses, channels with 50k+ subscribers, 3+ channel managers or 50+ employees are excluded, at TubeBuddy's discretion, and pushed to Enterprise. And because it's built around your channel, it tells you little about what is exploding elsewhere on YouTube.

What Returbe does best

Returbe watches about 9,800 channels around the clock and compares every new video with its own channel's median views. A video at 10x is doing ten times its channel's normal: the topic, the title or the thumbnail hit a nerve. That's an outlier, and it's the best evidence there is of what audiences want right now. (New to the idea? Read what an outlier video is.)

Returbe ranks videos by how far they beat their channel's normal, not by raw views.

You don't need a keyword to start. Open Top Videos, pick a niche, long-form or Shorts, a channel size and a period, and you see what is overperforming this week.

Top Videos filtered on True Crime: an 8.5k-subscriber channel at 214x its normal.

Where Returbe is weaker: it doesn't touch your uploads. No bulk editing, no tag suggestions, no description generator.

Head to head: finding video ideas

TubeBuddy offers Next Video Ideas, based on your channel, and competitor scorecards. Useful, but centered on you and the competitors you already know.

Returbe starts from everything it tracks:

  1. Outliers without a keyword, classified by niche and sub-niche, so you can browse "History & documentary, long-form, under 100k subscribers, last 7 days".
  2. Small channels first: Breakout Creators and the "small channels exploding" feed show videos with 5x to 100x more views than the channel has subscribers.
  3. "In my niche": connect your channel and Returbe builds a fingerprint of your videos (topics, formats, thumbnails, look-alike channels) to show only outliers that match it.

Verdict: Returbe.

Head to head: choosing a niche

TubeBuddy has no niche finder on its pricing page. Returbe's Niche Finder lists the niches and channels where small creators are breaking out, with median views per video, the multiplier against subscribers, the estimated RPM and how crowded each niche is.

Returbe's Niche Finder: a 1.6k-subscriber channel averaging 161k views per video (101x).

That's the data behind the 10 best YouTube niches to start in 2026 and the highest paying YouTube niches.

Verdict: Returbe.

Head to head: A/B tests and packaging

TubeBuddy tests your titles and thumbnails on your traffic. If you have enough views per video for a test to be meaningful, that's the most direct answer you can get.

Returbe spots when other channels swap a thumbnail or title and shows what it did to views, and its Trending Formats groups titles that share the same structure across channels, with how far above their normal they perform. You learn from thousands of tests and outliers before you publish.

Returbe Trending Formats: one title structure, four channels, up to 72x their normal views.

Verdict: a tie. TubeBuddy to test after publishing, Returbe to pick a proven structure before.

Head to head: SEO and channel management

TubeBuddy's home turf: Keyword Explorer, SEO Studio and bulk editing have no equivalent on Returbe, which has a keyword opportunity score but no upload tools.

Verdict: TubeBuddy.

Who should choose TubeBuddy

  • You have a large back catalog to keep up to date (end screens, cards, descriptions).
  • You get enough views to A/B test thumbnails on your own videos.
  • Your videos live off search, and you want an SEO checklist inside YouTube Studio.
  • You're an individual creator under 50k subscribers looking for the cheapest paid tool.

Who should choose Returbe

  • You're choosing or changing a niche and want real channels as proof.
  • You keep asking "what should my next video be?"
  • You run a faceless, documentary or storytelling channel, where formats travel between channels.
  • You're over 50k subscribers or work as a team, and want a public price.

Using both

  1. Returbe: open your niche in Top Videos or "In my niche" and note the topics overperforming this month.
  2. Returbe: check Trending Formats for the title structure behind them.
  3. TubeBuddy: run the topic through Keyword Explorer and SEO Studio before uploading.
  4. TubeBuddy: A/B test the thumbnail once the video is live.

FAQ

Is Returbe a good TubeBuddy alternative?

It depends on the job. TubeBuddy manages and optimizes your own channel: A/B tests, bulk edits, SEO Studio. Returbe finds what to make next: videos doing 3x to 100x their channel's normal, by niche, format and channel size. If your problem is ideas and niche choice, Returbe is the better fit; if it's running a large back catalog, TubeBuddy is.

How much does TubeBuddy cost in 2026?

TubeBuddy Pro is $12/month and Legend is $26.39/month, with 20% off when paying yearly; Enterprise is on a custom quote. Its pricing page lists no free plan. Returbe has a 7-day Pro trial, Basic at €15/month, Pro at €29/month, and for agencies Agency at €79/month and Agency+ at €149/month.

Can I use TubeBuddy on a channel with more than 50,000 subscribers?

Not on the individual plans. TubeBuddy's pricing page says Pro and Legend are for individual creators only and exclude businesses, channels with 50k+ subscribers, 3+ channel managers or 50+ employees, at TubeBuddy's discretion; those go to Enterprise. Returbe's plans have no subscriber limit.

Does TubeBuddy have an outlier finder?

Its pricing page doesn't list an outlier finder or a thumbnail search. It has Next Video Ideas and competitor scorecards. Returbe is built around outliers: a continuously updated index you can browse by niche, format, channel size and language without typing a keyword.

Which one has A/B testing?

Both, in different ways. TubeBuddy runs A/B tests of titles and thumbnails on your own videos, a core feature of its Legend plan. Returbe detects when other channels change a video's thumbnail or title and shows the effect on views, so you learn from tests you didn't have to run.

Can I use TubeBuddy and Returbe together?

Yes. Use Returbe to pick the topic and title structure that is overperforming in your niche this month, then use TubeBuddy to optimize the upload, test thumbnails and keep your back catalog tidy.
