There are now dozens of "YouTube analytics tools", and they don't do the same thing at all. Some read your own channel data. Some track other channels' public stats. Some help you rank in search. Some find breakout videos to inspire your next idea. Picking the "best" one without knowing which job you need it for is how creators end up paying for three tools and using none.
This guide compares 10 tools by what they're actually good at. Prices and features for paid tools come from each tool's own public pricing and feature pages, checked on October 29, 2026; we don't guess anything a vendor doesn't state. Full disclosure: we make Returbe, one of the tools on the list. We've tried to be fair, including about what Returbe doesn't do.

The 4 types of YouTube analytics tools
Before the details, understand the categories. Most creators need one tool from category 1, and one from category 2 or 3.
- Your own data: YouTube Studio. Click-through rate, retention, traffic sources, revenue. Nothing replaces it, and no third-party tool can see these numbers for other channels.
- Idea and niche research (outlier tools): Returbe, 1of10, ViewStats, NexLev, TubeLab, OutlierKit. They look at other channels to find which videos and niches are beating expectations right now.
- SEO and channel management: vidIQ, TubeBuddy. Keywords, tags, descriptions, A/B tests, bulk edits.
- Public stats trackers: Social Blade, and the public pages of ViewStats. Subscriber and view counts over time for any channel.
The biggest shift of the last two years is category 2. Creators realized that raw view counts lie: a 1M-view video on a 10M-subscriber channel is a flop, while a 50,000-view video on a 3,000-subscriber channel is a hit worth studying. Outlier tools measure each video against its own channel's normal, which is why they've become the main research tool for growing channels. (What is an outlier video?)
1. YouTube Studio: the free tool you should master first
Price: free. Best for: understanding your own audience.
YouTube Studio is the only place to see your private metrics: impressions and click-through rate, average view duration and the retention curve, traffic sources (Browse, Suggested, Search, Shorts feed), audience demographics and "when your viewers are on YouTube", and your revenue and RPM once monetized.
What it doesn't do: show you anything about other channels, or tell you what to make next (the "Research" tab gives search topics but not much context).
How to use it well: after every upload, check CTR and retention at 48 hours and at 7 days, and compare each video's views to your own median. Your own outliers are your best data.
2. Returbe: breakout ideas and niches, by channel size
Price: from €15/month. Free: a 7-day Pro trial on every new account, plus free outlier, monetization and keyword checkers without an account.
Returbe compares every video in its index with its own channel's median views and surfaces the ones doing 3×, 10× or 100× their normal, filtered by niche, format (long or Shorts), language and channel size. That last filter is the point: you can look only at channels under 10,000 subscribers to find ideas that worked without an existing audience.
Strengths
- Outliers by niche, format, channel size and language without typing a keyword first.
- Niche Finder focused on small channels (1K to 100K subscribers) that are breaking out, with RPM estimates.
- Trending title formats reused by several channels, with their average multiplier.
- An "In my niche" feed matched to your own channel and look-alike channels.
- A Chrome extension with outlier badges on YouTube, channel analytics tabs and video stats.
Weaknesses
- Not an SEO tool: no tag suggestions or description generator.
- Smaller AI toolbox than creation suites.
- No public API.
Pick it if: you're choosing a niche or your next video, especially for a faceless or documentary channel. Our data-driven guides (low-competition niches, highest paying niches, best time to post) are built on the same database.
3. vidIQ: keyword research and an AI coach
Price: from $19/month. Free: a free plan with 150 AI credits a month; the Outliers tool is limited to 6 videos per search.
vidIQ is the best-known YouTube growth suite: keyword research with search volume and competition, an AI Coach trained on your channel, thumbnail maker, title and description generators, a script writer, Shorts clipping, and a browser extension used by millions of creators. It also offers an MCP connection for Claude and ChatGPT on every plan.
Strengths: mature keyword research; large AI toolbox; huge extension user base; MCP even on Free. Weaknesses: idea features mostly start from a keyword you already have; much of the value runs on AI credits; team access only via Enterprise quotes. Pick it if: your channel is search-driven (tutorials, reviews, how-tos) or you want an AI coach. Comparison: vidIQ vs Returbe.
4. TubeBuddy: manage and test your own channel
Price: from $12/month, the cheapest paid entry on this list. Free: none listed on the pricing page.
TubeBuddy lives inside YouTube Studio as a browser extension: keyword research, SEO Studio, A/B tests of titles and thumbnails, bulk editing of end screens, cards and descriptions, and competitor scorecards.
Strengths: A/B testing on your own videos; bulk editing for big back catalogs; cheap. Weaknesses: built to manage your channel, not to discover ideas across YouTube; individual licenses exclude channels over 50K subscribers; no outlier finder or thumbnail search on its pricing page. Pick it if: you have lots of videos to maintain or you want to test packaging. Comparison: TubeBuddy vs Returbe.
5. 1of10: packaging research with AI creation
Price: from $19/month. Free: a free plan with 60 credits a month, 5 results per outlier or thumbnail search, top 3 trending formats.
1of10 combines research (outlier search across niches, thumbnail search, trending formats, competitor tracking) with creation (an AI thumbnail generator that can use your face, AI titles and ideas, an AI video editor). Outlier searches don't spend credits.
Strengths: outlier search without credits; strong thumbnail research and AI thumbnails; AI editing. Weaknesses: MCP and API only from Pro ($89/mo); no niche finder or keyword research; AI tools consume credits quickly. Pick it if: your bottleneck is titles and thumbnails. Comparison: 1of10 vs Returbe.
6. ViewStats: analytics from MrBeast's team
Price: Pro price shown on their site (not stated in a fixed currency on the page); Business from $249/month. Free: a public stats site with pages for many channels.
ViewStats, co-founded by MrBeast, turns the analytics his team built into a product: channel and video analytics, outlier videos, thumbnail search, competitor tracking, alerts and collections. Its free public pages (subscriber counts, top lists) are among the most visited YouTube stats pages.
Strengths: strong brand and community; outliers, thumbnail search and competitor tracking; alerts and collections. Weaknesses: no niche finder; teams and API only on Business. Pick it if: you like analytics dashboards and packaging research. Comparison: ViewStats vs Returbe.
7. NexLev: faceless niches and RPM
Price: from €13/month. Free: none listed.
NexLev is built for faceless creators: a Niche Finder that ranks channels and niches with an AI RPM predictor, faceless outliers, a Chrome extension with 40+ research tools and sponsorship analysis, and n8n automation plus API on Pro.
Strengths: large channel database for faceless niches; RPM predictions; automation. Weaknesses: Niche Finder only on Pro; no team plans; focused on faceless automation more than growing your own channel. Pick it if: you're launching a faceless channel and want to pick by RPM. Comparison: NexLev vs Returbe.
8. TubeLab: niche research plus scripts and avatars
Price: from €29/month. Free: none listed.
TubeLab pairs a Niche Finder and an Outliers Finder with creation tools: an AI scriptwriter, TubeAvatar AI avatar videos, weekly niche and trend reports, a monetization tracker and a keyword rank tracker.
Strengths: niche and outlier finders with real-time data; reports; scripts in the same tool. Weaknesses: advanced Niche Finder and API only from Pro; AI avatar videos sit close to YouTube's inauthentic content rules, which matters for monetization. Pick it if: you want research and script writing in one place. Comparison: TubeLab vs Returbe.
9. OutlierKit: keywords and outliers on credits
Price: from $49/month. Free: a 30-credit trial, no card.
OutlierKit is a credit-based research tool: outlier research, keyword research aimed at low-competition high-RPM topics, idea scoring, competitor analysis, and on Pro a niche-wide Competitor Studio with sponsor and comment intelligence, MCP and API.
Strengths: keywords and outliers together; script and hook analysis; Competitor Studio on Pro. Weaknesses: every search spends credits (the entry plan is about 50 outlier searches a month); MCP, API and Competitor Studio only from Pro ($99/mo). Pick it if: you're a researcher or agency who wants keywords and outliers in one tool. Comparison: OutlierKit vs Returbe.
10. Social Blade: quick public stats
Price: free public pages (paid options exist). Best for: a fast look at any channel's subscriber and view history.
Social Blade is the classic public stats site: daily subscriber and view changes, rankings, and rough earnings ranges for any channel. It's useful to check whether a channel is growing or declining, but it doesn't tell you which videos drive that growth or why, and its earnings ranges are very wide.

Which tool should you choose?
If you're starting a channel
- YouTube Studio (free) for your own data.
- An outlier tool with a channel-size filter to choose your niche and ideas. Small channels need ideas proven by other small channels. That's what Returbe is built for; 1of10's free plan is another way to start.
- Skip SEO tools until you have a few videos out.
If your channel is search-driven (tutorials, reviews, how-tos)
vidIQ or TubeBuddy for keywords, plus YouTube Studio's search traffic report.
If you run a faceless channel
Returbe, NexLev or TubeLab for niche research with RPM; check each niche's earnings per 1,000 views and how open it is to small channels.
If packaging is your bottleneck
1of10 or ViewStats for thumbnail search; TubeBuddy to A/B test on your own videos.
If you manage several channels or clients
Look at team plans and APIs: ViewStats Business, OutlierKit Pro, 1of10 Pro, Returbe Agency.
How to judge any YouTube analytics tool
Whatever you pick, ask five questions:
- Does it compare videos to their channel's normal, or only show raw views? Raw views favor big channels and mislead small ones.
- Can you filter by channel size, language and format? A Shorts outlier and a 40-minute documentary outlier are different worlds.
- How fresh is the data? Trends move weekly; a database updated monthly misses them.
- What does the free plan really include? Credits, result limits, trial length.
- Does it tell you what to do next, or just show charts? The best tool is the one that changes your next video.
Methodology and disclosure

What is the best YouTube analytics tool?
It depends on the job. YouTube Studio is the only source of your own private data (CTR, retention, revenue) and it's free. For finding what works on other channels, outlier tools like Returbe, 1of10 or ViewStats are best. For keyword research and SEO, vidIQ and TubeBuddy are the established choices. For faceless niche research, NexLev and TubeLab.
What is the best free YouTube analytics tool?
YouTube Studio for your own channel. For other channels, Social Blade's public stats, vidIQ's free plan (Outliers limited to 6 videos per search), 1of10's free plan (5 results per search) and Returbe's 7-day Pro trial (plus free outlier, monetization and keyword checkers without an account).
Can I see the analytics of another YouTube channel?
Not the private ones: nobody but the owner can see another channel's CTR, retention or exact revenue. Tools estimate the rest from public data: views, subscribers, upload history, growth over time, estimated revenue from RPM benchmarks, and outlier scores (a video's views compared to the channel's median).
Is vidIQ or TubeBuddy better?
vidIQ is stronger on keyword research and AI creation tools; TubeBuddy is stronger on managing your own channel (A/B tests of titles and thumbnails, bulk editing). Neither is built mainly to find breakout ideas across YouTube, which is what outlier tools do.
What is an outlier tool?
A tool that finds videos performing far above their channel's normal views, for example a video with 10 times the channel's median. These videos show which ideas and packaging work right now, independent of channel size, which makes them the best source of video ideas for small channels.
